4 July:
Another glorious
day so we decided to head off on another self drive tour this time a
red car door drive to see Amigos Castle. The rugged look of the town
lends greatly to the huge Gothic style castle that a local man has
been single handedly building since he began to tire from Opal mining
in 1985. It is a very impressive building unfortunately he is no
longer continuing to build it due to council rules, however it has
been saved and preserved as a heritage building for the township of
Lightning Ridge and the $10 entry goes back to the town a great
cause. There was also a young lady Anita who greeted us and told us
about the castle and the owner, she herself is very talented and has
set up her art gallery in the castle and her art works were amazing
(no photos allowed). From there it was back to the van park for the
rest of the day and of course later in the day off to the bore pool.
