Hey Cobba

04 June: Today we decided to do the Paddle Boat ride on the Murray from Thompson’s Beach - best thing was we were the only ones on board so had the whole boat to ourselves. We went 2kms up the river amazing views even saw 4 koala's sitting up in the huge river gums. The river here is very different to Echuca and or down south Mannum SA, here the banks are very low and there are many many sandy beaches. So many trees in the river and on the banks and it is illegal to remove them, therefore you have to know how to navigate your way on the river. This boat was all driven by manual remote hung around the skipper neck - It seems a shame that he doesn't use the amazing wheel, but he manoeuvred the boat brilliantly and he was a wealth of knowledge of the river,area and boat. We had a hot cuppa coffee on board and purchased a couple of postcards, the drinks was needed as it was so cold. 

 

Cobba Paddle Boat is a testament to local engineering. Involving many local businesses in the construction. Departing from Thompson Beach Cobram. What a great way to see the amazing scenery of the Mighty Murray. There are one and one and a half hour day tours, you can enjoy freshly brewed coffee and snacks while admiring the river and or have a wine or beer - what better. Cobba is a 12m-long paddle boat with a diesel engine (and a generator attached to each wheel), with a shallow barge hull. It took him six years before Cobba was seaworthy because the owner did not want to get into debut and waited until fund became available before commencing work on another section of the vessel. Like all respectable building projects borne out of a romantic vision there was a monumental cost blow-out. The owner figured it would cost about $300,000 to build, but ended up costing $600,000 In one particular instance of bill shock, the owner was charged $15,000 in one hit to move the vessel from Yarroweyah to its Murray River mooring. “It was a 5km journey and some street had to be closed to move it,the owner said this “I hadn’t budgeted for".

Awoke to a tad chilly morning, never warmed up very much at all started out in the minus and only just made it to double figures. Now the suns gone it is getting cold again really fast.

Was a lovely day took Gemma for a walk around the road and came back and picked a few Mandarins it was so nice sitting on the seat outside in the sun.

Later in the afternoon I found these two fast asleep in the sun and warm in the conservatory:!!!!!!!!! yep Brian and his shadow Miss Gemma.

Leaves Leaves and chewed lounge blinds

Fri 29th May

Yep you guessed it the leaves are falling fast now - WINTA (as the aussies say it) is fast approaching.

 

We popped out in the morning to the shops and left Miss Gemma home, arrived back to find she had chewed a bottom slat of the owners lounge wooden blinds - little bitch. We haven't told them yet we are going to wait until a couple of days before they come home before we tell them. We now block her outside so she cann't get back in we block entry to her doggie dog see the photo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Yep its us

We had a some friends from the Sunshine Coast pass through on their way to Melbourne. Lyn is a Line Dancing friend of ours from Marrochydore and she rang to say they (her husband John and herself) were staying one night at the caravan park and would we like to catch up the following morning for a coffee before they headed to Melbourne. We agreed to meet them at the Big Cod on the river front. Had a nice chat for an hour along with a coffee and Lyn took this great photo of us together.

And here's a couple of Lyn and I there is a bit of a joke about Lyn's lucky red boots.

Yellow Rosella's paid a visit

Finally the Yellow Rosella's paid us a visit in the garden. They are fairly large parrots they look like an over grown budgie. There are many forms depending on what area/State of Aus you are in. There were 3 of them in the garden on the bird bath and playing in the bushes, we were able to get a good look at them and a few photos.

 

Barroga Again

25th  May 2015

Took Miss Gemma along to the Barooga Botanical Gardens again for a walk/run. It is so nice and quiet there and she can run along on her long lead without having to worry about people and or other animals around, mostly we have the park to ourselves which is great.

A walk along the Levy

22nd May 2015

Decided as it was such a nice morning we would take Miss Gemma for a walk along the Levy bank. On our way back we saw a small Paddle boat at the boat ramp at Tocumwal - the boat was named Cobba and is based at Cobram only 20mins away from Tocumwal.We have decided not to go back to Echuca as we have been there 3 times and were only going to go back to do another paddle boat ride. Instead we will support the local guys at Cobram and do one on the Cobba.

 

 

 

 

Bonus

Went for a drive to the Timeout Resort last Friday night to see if we could find any Koala. We have been here before and always found them in the trees on the entrance road. Not this night we had left a bit late getting there and it was almost dark, we drove along the road and found none so by now it was dark and we decided to head back to the house. Heading out along the road I jammed on the breaks as we could see eyes glowing  - no knowing what it was and thinking possum but no a lonely Koala female ever so slowly crossing the road. We managed to stop and get a good look but not managing ton get a good photo - we did get 1 only and have a good look at her which was way better than seeing them in a tree. When you see how slow they move is it any wonder they get hit by cars and trucks. She was not afraid at all after about 5mins she just walked off into the bush and we headed back home very pleased with what we saw.To get to the Timeout Resort we cross the bridge that spans the Murray River forming the border between NSW and VIC so ever so briefly we drove into VIC to see the Koala.
