Tocumwal Blowhole and WW2 Hangers

Sunday 21st June:

The Tocumwal Blowhole, is a large hole in granite, well actually two separate holes of different depths, that are alleged to lead all the way to the Murray River, some 10 kilometres.
The Blowhole is said to be sacred to the Ulupna and Bangaragn Aboriginal Tribes. In times of drought and low water in the river, the hole will bubble and overflow with water, like a fresh water spring. There are two holes here of different depths. The larger hole is said to be about 5m deep. There is a deeper narrower hole which is rumoured to be about 20 to 25m deep. There is a hollowness of sound on the south side of the larger hole that could be a cavern.

The Granite beds the Tocumwal Blowhole is formed in were laid down in the Silurian Peroid around 416 to 443 million years ago 

On the way back from the Blowhole we stopped and took a couple of photos for the WW2 hangers that still remain from when Tocumwal was an airbase back in WW2.

 

Milawa and Lake Mulwala

Thursday 11th June:

With the pooch locked out of the house we decided to head back to a couple of the places we loved from our 2013 trip. Milawa and Myrtelford and on the way back we stopped at Lake Mulwala or Yarrawonga, it had been drained as there was some kind of weed growing and the only way they can kill it is to drain the lake. It is such an ugly lake with nothing but dead trees and stumps it is so ugly. As we were leaving Tocumwal they had started to refill it and that meant that the Murray River was very very low.

These donkeys were in the field by the lake while we had a cuppa on the way back to Tocumwal

Miss Gemma had been naughty when we arrived back she had scratched two holes in the security door. She was in disgrace and sent outside.

As the weather on the way back is going to be a bit chilly we decided to convert the van back to a queen bed, once back into Qld we can change it back to single easy as. (see below pic)

Once a month they hold a Foreshore Market along the levy bank, it is a huge market, the morning we went along the weather was amazing and lots of people were there it is always a huge success.

Woodsome Lees Vineyard

On the way back we stopped to take a few photos of one of the huge wineries in the

area, it is pruning time and all done by machine - imagine pruning this by hand. The

vines are obviously a staggered crop as many as you can see have no leaves and the

vines are very bare and some have new green foliage poking through. The vineyard is

326 acres and grows 4 varieties of grape, it is all fully irrigated. The car is the one we use

when we take the dog out for a drive and or walk, it is the owners car and an old Holden

she goes well and is really great on fuel.
