25th June:
Awoke Thursday morning to a chilly but
fine sunny day for our drive through to the Lake. We joined the
Newell Highway for approx 40kms and turned off onto the Kidman Way
which being a secondary road we new it was sealed but were not sure
of the condition - soon finding out it was really great hardly any
traffic and the scenery was stunning, Passing many rice fields (Sun
rice) cotton fields, citrus groves, poultry farms and vineyards. The
whole area is all cropping and farm land. We stopped around 1230 just
out of Griffith and had lunch and a cuppa, the wind was very cold so
we sat inside the van and had it. Driving on through the afternoon we
passed through more lovely scenery many sheep and Emus the odd cattle
and groups of wild goats. Finally arriving at Lake Cargelligo caravan
park around 3.30, a nice park very small and quiet, a view of the
lake from the van what better. Spending the weekend at Lake
Cargelligo to rest up, do some washing and in general just have a
good look around. It is a much larger country town than what we
thought. The weather was very very cold and the nights and early
mornings were very chilly to say the least. We have been warm in the
van with winter sheets and plenty of blankets plus hot water bottles
and a heater that we keep on thermostat, the days have been stunning
sunny and blue skies but the temps really chilly.
